Staff Sergeant Sarah Carter performs on flute and piccolo for the Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, and Woodwind Quintet. She also serves as Auditions Coordinator for the band.

A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sergeant Carter graduated from Tallwood High School in 1997. She went on to attend Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester, VA. While at Shenandoah, Sergeant Carter performed as principal flutist in several ensembles including the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Woodwind Quintet. In 2002 Sergeant Carter was accepted to the University of Tennessee with an assistantship for flute performance. While living in Tennessee she was principal flute and soloist with the Oak Ridge Symphony. In 2003 she performed with the University Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. She also was the first conductor for Grace Notes flute choir in Maryville, TN. Sergeant Carter has won MTNA competitions in the States of Virginia and Tennessee. She is currently second flutist with the Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra and flutist with Southern Winds woodwind quintet.  She recently premiered the new concert ending to the first movement of the Mike Mower Concerto for Flute and Wind Orchestra. She actively freelances and teaches flute in the local area. Her primary teachers include Frank Jones, Frances Lapp Averitt, and Shelley Binder.  

Sergeant Carter entered the Air Force in February 2006 and was assigned to the Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve at Robins AFB, GA.
