Second Lieutenant Thomas P. Gamboa serves as the Commander and Conductor of the Band of the United States Air Force Reserve, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. He earned his commission from Officer Training School, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama in February 2011.

Lieutenant Gamboa is originally from San Diego, California where he graduated from Rancho Bernardo High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in Music Education and Music Performance on Bassoon where he studied with Charles Coker. He also earned a Masters of Music degree in Conducting from Northwestern University where he studied with Dr. Mallory Thompson. Additional conducting studies include work with Dr. Tom Lee, Dr. Donald Neuen, Dr. Frank Heuser, Victor Yampolsky, Kenneth Kiesler, Marianne Ploger, Jerald Schwiebert, Joseph Gifford, Neal Stulberg, and Jerry Junkin.

Prior to his commission, Lieutenant Gamboa has worked with the UCLA Marching Band and held the position of Undergraduate Conducting Assistant for the UCLA Symphonic Band where he conducted and managed the ensemble. He has also worked as a Graduate Conducting Assistant for the Northwestern University Department of Bands where he conducted and managed the Northwestern University Marching Band, Brass Ensemble, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Orchestral Brass Repertoire class, and Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

As an educator, Lieutenant Gamboa taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District at West Adams Preparatory High School in South Central, Los Angeles as the Instrumental Music Director and Music Department Chair. In the inaugural year of WAPHS, Lieutenant Gamboa created, developed, and conducted the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, and Symphonic Orchestra during his tenure. Lieutenant Gamboa was also an instructor for the National High School Music Institute in the areas of conducting and chamber music, in addition to his duties as Assistant Conductor for the NHSMI Wind Ensemble. Additionally, he worked for the United Spirit Association as a Drum Major Instructor for over 10 years teaching Military and Mace style Drum Majoring as well as Field Conducting at the high school level.
