Airman First Class Joseph Philpott performs on clarinet with the Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, and Woodwind Quintet.
Airman Philpott is a native of Conyers, Georgia. He began studying clarinet at the age of ten with local clarinetist Robert Brown. While growing up he would often perform with his mother (flute) and sister (oboe) to form a woodwind trio. He also participated in 7 consecutive years of Allstate, Governor's Honors Program, and The Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. In 1996 A1C Philpott graduated from Heritage High School. Thereafter he pursued a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Northwestern University, which was completed in 2000 under the instruction of Russell Dagon (Principal Clarinetist of the Milwaukee Symphony retired). In 2004 Airman Philpott earned a Master's degree from the University of Georgia where he studied under D. Ray McClellan (a former student of the long time Julliard professor and New York City Ballet Clarinetist David Weber). While at Northwestern and UGA Airman Philpott performed with many on campus groups such as the wind ensembles, orchestras, contemporary chamber ensembles, and countless other new composition premieres, chamber groups, and solo recitals. He was the adjunct professor of clarinet at Georgia College & State University from 2007-2010. In addition, prior to enlisting in the Air Force he held a private studio of twenty-five elementary and middle school students, while freelancing with local orchestras, performing solo recitals, and doing part-time woodwind repair in the Atlanta area.
Airman Philpott entered the Air Force November 2010 and was assigned to the Band of the U.S. air Force Reserve at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.
